CAIPA Applauds Governor Hochul for Vetoing Wrongful Death Act

Latest News - Wrongful Dead Act
Thank you to the Governor’s third time veto this Bill.

The Coalition of Asian-American Independent Practice Associations (CAIPA) applauds Governor Kathy Hochul for her decisive leadership in vetoing the Wrongful Death Act. The Governor’s action demonstrates her commitment to protecting independent medical providers – particularly those serving Asian American communities.
As representatives of Asian American physicians in New York State, we have consistently highlighted how this legislation would have destabilized our healthcare system through dramatically increased liability costs. The Governor’s decision acknowledges the significant challenges facing medical practices and prevents additional financial burdens that would have disproportionately affected providers serving minority and immigrant communities. We remain committed to our mission of protecting and expanding healthcare access for all New Yorkers, and we appreciate Governor Hochul’s partnership in this critical effort.
