The CAIPA Foundation proudly supported the Metropolitan Asian Deaf Association (MADA) in hosting ASL STEM Day, an event dedicated to advancing inclusion and education for Deaf and hard-of-hearing youth and their families. The program created a platform for learning, understanding, and empowerment—helping to build stronger bridges between communities.
Dr. Liyan Yao, one of CAIPA’s newest physicians, spoke with parents and children about what it means to pursue a career in medicine with empathy and purpose. She encouraged families to believe in their children’s potential and reminded everyone that each child learns and grows at their own pace, with perseverance and care serving as the foundation for success.
The audience was also inspired by Sheila Xu, a Deaf Asian American pilot, analog astronaut trainee, and advocate for accessibility in space and STEM. Through her experience, she shared how self-acceptance and resilience can transform challenges into opportunities—and inspire others to reach beyond perceived limits.
The CAIPA Foundation remains committed to promoting health equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all. By supporting programs that empower underserved communities, we strive to create a future where everyone has the chance to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
