Ron Kim Urges Action on Mental Health After Flushing Family Tragedy
In response to the recent family tragedy in Flushing, NYS Assemblymember Ron Kim held a press conference on October 8, urging the community to take mental health in immigrant families seriously. He called for early intervention, destigmatization, and better access to care, especially among Asian and immigrant communities.
Kim emphasized that such incidents are not isolated but reflect long-term emotional suppression in many families. “We need safe, inclusive spaces where people can talk about their struggles and seek help before it’s too late,” he said.
The NYC Department of Health, CAIPA Foundation, Inc., and Healthfirst jointly announced upcoming Community Mental Health and Resilience Training sessions:
- Oct. 14 (Tue), 1–4 PM — 136-33 37th Ave., Room 2D, Flushing
- Oct. 24 (Fri), 1–4 PM — 202 Canal St, Room 500, Chinatown
