World Journal – Ron Kim Allocates $30k for Community Mental Health Project

紐約州眾議員、州眾議會老齡委主席金兌錫(Ron Kim)12日宣布,為亞美醫師協會(CAIPA) 「社區心理健康項目」(Community Mental Health Project)爭取到3萬元撥款,將為生活困難及弱勢民眾提供社會服務和資源,資金由亞美醫協兒童和家庭服務辦公室管理。

 

金兌錫表示,過去多年心理健康成為社區討論議題,面對心理疾病亞裔,經常受到刻板印象、害怕受到他人的批判和不認可,而不敢說出口,在持續隱忍下,等到尋求幫助時,往往為時已晚。

 

他說,無論是經歷疫情、戰爭,還是受到暴力影響的民眾,都應該提前面對自己的心理健康狀況,因此建立心理健康服務對社區的發展至關重要,必須了解弱勢群體的症狀和狀況,避免他們被否認或忽視;此次爭取到的3萬元款項,將可協助亞美醫協繼續發展該項目,擴大服務更多人群。

 

亞美醫師協會總裁兼執行總監劉季高則表示,疫情過後不少人因親友去世感到沮喪,也有很多人覺得希望渺茫,長久導致心理疾病,該協會努力擴大心理健康項目,同時支持其他社區的倡議,以幫助那些生活困難、弱勢的家庭和群體。這筆至關重要的撥款將助於擴大他們的服務範圍,為更多的患者和醫護人員提供支持。

當天出席者還包括亞美醫協首席運營官沈卉等人。
